Dirt Bikes for Dummies - Participation
Written by matt
If you are a parent of an aspiring dirt track racer, there are a lot of things to consider. There are many physical and emotional factors to take into account when prepping your kid for a child’s dirt bike race. You have got to be ready to support your child both emotionally as well as financially before he or she participates in a kid’s dirt bike competition.

As a parent, you should thoroughly evaluate your child’s ability and desire to be a dirt track racer as objectively as you can. You should bear in mind that joining a dirt bike race is not all about winning, but also about the forming the right attitude and discipline for dirt biking. You must commit to support your child in order for him/her to become the best dirt rider there is, not only on the dirt racetrack but also outside of it. You might even have to get your child into a dirt bike racing school.

There are various dirt bike race events in which your child can join ranging from fun, low-impact, participatory events to serious dirt track racing.

Your child can sign up for trail rides. Trail rides are semi-competitive race events in which organizers usually bring in some random, fun elements into the race results.

Most children start racing in motocross events. Motocross races normally include a run through session and two ‘motos.’ Combining the two motos’ scores determines the champion in a motocross race. To get into a motocross race, you pay a gate fee to gain entry into the dirt racetrack plus an entry fee at sign up for every class (or level of experience) that your child enters.

A hare scramble is like a motocross race held in the woods, but without a second moto involved. Because hare scrambles are held in the woods, the dirt racecourses are longer and the dirt racing is consequently tighter.
