Dirt Bike Jumping
Dirt Bikes for Dummies - Riding Technique

If you plan to race your dirt bike you will face dirt bike jumps.  There is no way around it.  There are several different obstacles that can be found on a dirt bike track but the basic skills are all the same regardless of what you’re jumping.  The dirt bike jump is inevitable to the dirt bike rider and should be approached with caution and knowledge.

When approaching a jump on your bike you should be standing up in a crouched position gripping your motorbike with your legs.  This will keep your dirt bike on line and not allow it to go sideways if it hits a bump on the up ramp of the jump.  Pick a line on the up ramp before you approach the bike jump and keep an even throttle as you approach your jump.  If, however, the bike jump has a small edge on the top lip, you’ll need to give it a little gas in order to stop the rear wheels from kicking up as you go over the jump. Some dirt jumps like gap jumps or tabletop jumps need to be hit at a certain speed so make sure you have your speed up before hitting the jump.

Now, let’s talk about the landing after the initial jump.  If you hit flat ground after the jumping, then you want to land with the rear tires first. Pull up on the bars right before landing. If your dirt bike lands on the down ramp make sure your bike is the same angle as the down ramp of the jump.  Whatever the type of jump you’ll need to practice and do what feels most natural to you but follow the basic guidelines for attempting dirt jumps on your dirt bike.
