You’ll have a blast when you are racing a dirt bike!

There are a lot of names used when racing a dirt bike, especially when, including: World MX, Mini Moto racing, Mamuth Mountain motocross, AMA Super Cross, Suzuki Amateur National race and many, many more. However there are only really two types of races.  There is the Super Cross bike race (indoor) and the Moto Cross bike race (outdoor).  So a dirt bike race is either indoor or outdoor.  Supercross race is primarily held at major indoor stadiums and the Moto Cross race is held on natural terrain tracks. Both races are sanctioned by the AMA (American Motorcycle Association).

What makes indoor dirt bike riding different from outdoor racing other than the obvious is that indoor tracks are typically around one minute in length and outdoor tracks are about two minutes. Indoor racing tracks have consistent jumps, obstacles and grooming while outdoor racing tracks have much higher speeds and the racetracks become rougher and more difficult as the race goes on. In Supercross races there is one main race that lasts about 20 minutes.  In Motocross racing, however there are two thirty minute races. 

Dirt bikes are different for each race, too. The bikes are softened up more for outdoor racing, which means they are made more flexible.  The suspension on the racing bike is made softer and that makes it easier on the dirt bike racer.  In Supercross racing, you want the bikes set up very stiff and precise so it will react immediately to the racers input.  A stiff dirt bike would however be too twitchy and hard to control for outdoor racing tracks.

If you’re interested in racing,  you can even find sites with rules and regulations for these races.  Remember there are a lot of different names for the races but they will either be an indoor race, or an outdoor race!
