Here is a quick description on how to replace your triple clamps. Allot of manufactures are making special offset clamps now that can improve cornering, stability or both. The job is simple enough, and shouldn't take any more than 20 minutes. The Goodies |
- To make things easiest, I remove the front wheel, and forks from the clamps. You can leave your front brake line attached to the fork guard and just remove the brake calliper. Let the whole setup dangle from the handlebars.
 No Wheel |
- Now remove your front number plate and your bars from the clamps.
- Lay your bars across the front fender, and remove the steering stem nut.
- This will expose the clamp lock nut. You can use a punch, screw driver, or other tool to knock the stem looks. Be careful to not completely remove the lock nut without holding onto the fender!
 Lock Nut |
- With the old triple clamps removed (the front fender still attached), take your new clamps and put a plethora of grease on the bearings. Now slide the steering stem up through the headset space, and reinstall the stem lock nut.
 New Clamp Bottom |
- Now slide the top clamp on and hand tighten the stem nut.
- Slide your forks into the clamps and tighten the pinch bolts to spec.
Forks Installed | Now just reinstall the front brake, transfer your front fender to your new setup, and put the wheel back on. Don't forget to reinstall your handlebars, you won't be going very far without those! |
